Each year an estimated 4.8 to 12.7 million tons of plastic waste ends up in marine waters.
This project features a seat made entirely of recycled plastic through the use of Large Format Additive Manufacturing, which allows large objects to be 3D printed using a wide range of customizable materials.
Through this system, a real recycling machine is activated, where the user is the protagonist in the creation of the seat.
Production systems become dependent on each other, and each element is indispensable to the well-being of the others and of the system itself.
Plastics recovered from the sea are reduced to grit and then processed by the manufacturing company, which makes the seat with PP-GF30 (Polypropylene-Glass Fiber), a material with many positive characteristics.
Given the variety of colors of plastics, each item will be unique.
The cushion is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a material with high strength.
The project is multifaceted: designed as a piece of furniture, it can be used as street furniture.
Indeed, thanks to its modularity, it can be placed in public squares, gardens and parks as a social installation in order to raise awareness of plastic pollution of the marine environment and a possible solution to it.
