Understanding the past, living in the present, designing the future.

Our institution was established on December 17, 1967 by the engraver artist Nunzio Sciavarrello. With its 2,149 students enrolled, it is the fourth Academy of Fine Arts in Italy in terms of student population in the Afam system. The AFAM (Higher Education in Art and Music and Dance) is part of the Italian Higher Education system governed by the MUR (Ministry of University and Research).

In its three departments – Visual Arts, Design and Applied Arts, and Art Teaching and Communication – the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania offers twenty-five courses divided into 3-year first level and 2-year second level academic degrees (3 + 2). All our Professors are qualified in higher education. DAPL (Three-year / First Level) and DASL (Two-year / Second Level) Academic Diplomas awarded at the end of our study courses are qualifications equivalent to university degrees (bachelor’s/first-level undergraduate degree and master’s/specialist graduate degree, respectively), which also permit to sit special exams, such as state exams. First-level undergraduate academic diploma courses aim to promote students’ mastery of the artistic methods and techniques as well as specialist and professional skills; second-level graduate diploma courses aim to provide students with higher professional skills as well as full mastery and advanced training in artistic methods and techniques. Narrating our stories, communicating our thought and sharing it with the students to make them acquire a method, develop a style, and pursue a career.

Extending the knowledge of the various features that make up our reality and define all art forms, through consistent study, problematizing and research activities.

Producing art and cultural activities, interchange of ideas, events, exhibitions, and publications to analyze the present world creatively and propose new and alternative visions.

Working with and on behalf of our territory for development aimed at mutual enrichment.

These web pages are designed according to the concepts of "Sustainable Web Design," which is an approach to website architecture aimed at minimizing environmental impact and maximizing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 production. Recall that according to some estimates, a simple search can generate 1g to 10g of CO2, while simply browsing a website produces an average of 1.76g of CO2 per page viewed.
