Istituto Superiore Industrie Artistiche (ISIA) of Faenza, like the other four institutes of the same type existing in Italy (with offices in Florence, Pescara, Rome and Urbino), is a public training institute aimed at product design and to communication design. It issues first and second level academic diplomas, equivalent, for the purposes of public competitions, to the corresponding degrees. Currently, he has a three-year course dedicated to Industrial Design and planning with ceramic and innovative materials and two two-year courses in Product Design and planning with ceramic and innovative materials and Communication Design. Founded in 1980 with the original aim of completing studies oriented towards the ceramic sector with advanced training, the Institute has long since expanded its sphere of action to the entire complex area of Design and Communication. The vocation for formal research remains unchanged as does the attention to technological advancement, in constant connection with the production sector and the cultural tradition of the city of Faenza. Direct relationships with the world of industry and research constitute a distinctive characterizing trait of ISIA, also through the intervention of design professionals, sector experts and university professors. The ISIA of Faenza has held and still holds collaborations, among others, with Tognana, Richard Ginori, Gamma due, Alessi, Metalplast, FIAT, INDA, Cefla, iGuzzini, with bodies such as Polo Ceramico and ISTEC- C.N.R. of Faenza. Erasmus exchanges are active with 21 European countries. The works of the students of Faenza are regularly on display in prestigious contexts at an Italian level (see the Salone Satellite in Milan) and internationally (see the Tools for After exhibition curated by Maurizio Corrado for the Institute of Italian Culture in Melbourne). The Institute enjoys the right, recognized to institutions of high culture, to establish autonomous regulations and bodies elected by professors and students. This results in autonomy in the choice of teachers, in the creation of study and research plans and in the development of initiatives to connect with industries and institutions. ISIA is led by a Board of Directors with financial expertise and an Academic Council with expertise in the field of teaching and research. The Institution is represented by a President chosen by the Academic Council, upon proposal of the Minister of Education and directed by a Director elected by the Professors.
