An innovative helmet for safe driving

Artificial Intelligence Thesis project

Description

Artificial intelligence applied to design can improve interaction and personalization of experiences. Thanks to it, it is now possible to create products that are more intuitive, adaptable and able to anticipate users’ needs, but above all to help in areas such as safety and health. The Raid thesis project is a demonstration of the importance that AI can assume in the safety and comfort of motorcyclists and revolutionize their riding experience. The main objective is the creation of an integrated ecosystem that combines a state-of-the-art helmet, called “Raid,” with a smartphone application, “Raid Plus,” designed to increase the protection of motorcyclists and facilitate connection and collaboration among users, forming a dynamic and interconnected community. Raid’s design path consisted of several key phases: initial research with questionnaires aimed at understanding the needs of motorcyclists, followed by a market survey to identify gaps in existing solutions and identify opportunities for improvement. This data guided the development of the physical and digital components of the project, with the goal of ensuring optimal functionality and effectively addressing the identified needs. Next, design planning was initiated, focusing on integrating technological innovations and resolving the issues that emerged. The Raid helmet is equipped with advanced technologies to ensure maximum protection and comfort: the photosensitive visor, for example, automatically adapts to changes in light thanks to artificial intelligence, ensuring optimal vision at all times, offering UV protection. In addition, the helmet integrates an advanced audio system with AI, including a directional microphone and stereo headphones capable of adapting to environmental conditions to ensure clear communication and filter out external noise. The integration of impact sensors is a crucial innovation for motorcyclist safety: in the event of an accident, AI automatically triggers a series of actions, such as emergency calls to help and user-preset contacts via the Raid Plus app; in addition, video and audio data related to the accident are automatically recorded, ensuring detailed documentation of the event, and the integrated GPS function enables the precise determination of the motorcyclist’s location, facilitating rapid and localized intervention. These sensors, together with environmental condition monitoring systems, allow the helmet to alert the motorcyclist in real time of any impending danger, such as obstacles in the road or adverse weather conditions. Each of the functions can be controlled manually via app, or by voice commands while using the product. The Raid Plus app is the ideal complement to the helmet, offering a range of features designed to enhance safety and the riding experience: the Helmet section allows real-time monitoring of helmet condition, sending notifications for maintenance and reporting any abnormalities; the My Trips feature allows routes to be tracked and recorded, offering the ability to analyze riding data; the Route Planning uses artificial intelligence to suggest customized and optimized routes, taking into account road and weather conditions to avoid dangerous situations; the app’s Community section turns Raid Plus into a social hub, where riders can connect, share experiences, and report road hazards through the Reports section, creating a safe and collaborative riding ecosystem. The app also provides motorcycle world updates and news, keeping users informed and engaged.

These web pages are designed according to the concepts of "Sustainable Web Design," which is an approach to website architecture aimed at minimizing environmental impact and maximizing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 production. Recall that according to some estimates, a simple search can generate 1g to 10g of CO2, while simply browsing a website produces an average of 1.76g of CO2 per page viewed.
